Five ways remote teams can celebrate Earth Day

April 22, 2025

To celebrate Earth Day, here’s a list of five ways your work-from-home and remote employees can make a difference.

At Chocolate Soup, we believe Earth Day isn’t just a day—it’s a mindset. That doesn’t mean we have it all figured out. But we’re committed to making progress, from how we source products to how we ship your curated gift boxes.

We’re always working to reduce our environmental footprint. That includes partnering with suppliers to switch to fully recyclable and biodegradable packaging, and prioritizing Canadian-made products from local, independent, and diverse businesses.

This Earth Day, we’re sharing five simple ways your remote and hybrid teams can celebrate—and make a difference.

1. Walk to your home office (seriously)
Just because your commute is down the hallway doesn’t mean you can’t make time for active transportation. Encourage your team to walk, cycle, or take public transit to their favourite remote-work spot—even if it’s just for a change of scenery and a breath of fresh air.

2. Send a greener gift
Sustainable gifting is one way to show appreciation that goes beyond the moment. We offer curated gift boxes that minimize waste and maximize impact by supporting local, sustainable businesses. It's one small choice that adds up.

3. Clean up the community
A neighbourhood clean-up walk is a great solo or team activity. Encourage employees to grab gloves and a bag and give their local parks or streets a quick refresh.

4. Try a plant-based team cook-off
Food choices have a big impact on the planet. Host a team cooking challenge with plant-based recipes or low-impact ingredients. Bonus points for local produce!

5. Flip the switch
With longer days and sunnier mornings, it’s a great time to rethink lighting habits at home. Turn off unnecessary lights, unplug electronics, and soak up that natural sunlight. (We promise it’s more flattering than your ring light.)

Let’s keep the momentum going
Earth Day may only come once a year, but we believe in building sustainable habits that last all year round. Looking for more ideas? Our friends at Porch put together a great list of ways to green your home and workspace.
